Everyone agrees the driver was at fault in this driver hits cyclist video. Yet the clip blew up on Reddit with more than 1,700 comments in under a day.
It starts as ordinary slow traffic. It ends with a rider on the pavement.

What the Video Shows
The footage is filmed by another rider following behind. It shows a silver SUV crowding the cyclist in slow traffic on a city street with a green light ahead.
As the SUV squeezes them, the cyclist reaches out and touches the car. The driver keeps edging over instead of backing off, passing far too close. Moments later, the cyclist is on the sidewalk.
The post is titled “Careless driver hits cyclist (He should have been arrested).” The video shows nothing before the first close pass or after contact.
Location, injuries, and any police action are all unconfirmed in the post and comments.
The Argument Splitting Riders
Fault was not the debate.
The top comment under the video puts it bluntly: “Driver 100% at fault, but cyclist was also an idiot.”
Many riders said tapping the car and pulling in front of a hostile driver escalated the risk. Their advice was to get clear instead of engaging.
Others said the cyclist had taken the lane and the car forced them sideways.
The shared ground was defense. As one commenter put it: “Bike defensively not offensively it doesn’t matter who is right the car always wins”
The advice repeated through the discussion: brake early and let an aggressive driver go.
The Takeaway Riders Agreed On
Beyond fault, riders rallied around insurance.
Another commenter wrote: “Make sure you are insured either through your home insurance or through a bike insurance policy. Things will take a very different turn when your insurance company sues the driver’s insurance for the money.”

💡 In my opinion: In these situations, it’s best to keep your distance and stay calm – no matter how much you may be in the right and the driver in the wrong.
It’s just not worth it, especially if the driver loses their cool and then uses their car as a weapon.
