Ever wondered what it feels like to descend a mountain at highway speeds on two wheels? Well, Tom Pidcock just showed us, and it’s absolutely wild.

The Descent That Broke the Internet

The 25-year-old British cycling phenomenon recently released a video that’ll make your palms sweat just by watching it. In partnership with Red Bull, Pidcock tackled the Rossfeld Panorama mountain pass, straddling the Austria-Germany border, at speeds that would make most car drivers nervous.

Breaking Down the Numbers

Let’s talk speed for a moment. Pidcock hit a jaw-dropping 59 mph (95 kph) during his descent. That’s faster than most urban speed limits, folks. And he did this on a bicycle, not a motorcycle.

The Secret Sauce

What makes this feat even more impressive is Pidcock’s technique. He employed the notorious “supertuck” position, essentially becoming one with his bike’s top tube for maximum aerodynamic advantage. While this position is banned in UCI races (probably because it’s too awesome), it’s fair game for recreational riding (right?).

Power and Precision

When not channeling his inner bullet train, Pidcock was cranking out over 800 watts while standing on the pedals. For context, that’s enough power to run your microwave – though I wouldn’t recommend trying to heat your lunch with a bike-powered kitchen.

Behind the Scenes

The whole descent was captured by Matthias Walker, a Dakar Rally champion, following on a motorcycle. That’s right – they needed a professional rally driver just to keep up with Pidcock on a bike.

Not His First Rodeo

This isn’t Pidcock’s first time making headlines for defying gravity. During his Tour de France debut in 2022, he casually hit speeds over 62 mph (100 kph) descending the Col du Galibier. And let’s not forget his viral descent of Tuna Canyon in Los Angeles, which has racked up over 2.7 million views.

Remember folks, while this looks incredibly cool, maybe start with your local hill before attempting any mountain passes at highway speeds.
