Shocking video footage has emerged capturing a horrific incident during the Vuelta a Venezuela cycling race.

What began as an exciting sprint finish for Stage 3 quickly turned into chaos and screams from the crowd.

Video – Police Motorbike hits Cycling race

After covering a gruelling 141km, cyclists were nearing the finish line when a police motorbike, escorting the race, inexplicably cut across the track.

This bizarre manoeuvre caused the bike to smash into several athletes, triggering a devastating pile-up on the side of the road. While some competitors rode past to the finish, those caught in the crash were left injured on the floor.

Reports indicate five individuals were hurt: three cyclists, the police officer driving the motorbike, and a race judge accompanying him. All were transported to hospital for further tests, though no updates on their condition have been released.

The shocking crash cast a significant dampener on the multi-stage race.
