Now the company behind those bikes has had to spell it out. Lime e-bike jousting is not what the bikes are for.

The Joust at London Fields

Jack Carden, a New Zealand-born artist, and actor Camtholomew the First jousted on Saturday evening, October 17, 2026, at London Fields in Hackney, east London, England.

They wore armor and chainmail and used red and silver striped poles as lances, riding rented Lime e-bikes.

One rider fell after being jabbed. Carden billed it beforehand as a “free public joust” and “performance art.” Organizers reportedly advertised it as a joke.

Camtholomew’s own Instagram film of the joust passed a million views within two days.

What Lime Said

“We always love seeing Londoners come together and build a sense of community in unexpected ways,” a Lime spokesperson said on Monday, October 19, 2026. “While we appreciate the medieval spirit, safety must always come first.”

“Lime bikes are designed for getting around the city, not for jousting. We discourage anyone from attempting similar events, to help keep riders and those around them safe.”

A Rematch, and a Joust in Alabama

Carden announced a second “Lime Bike Jousting” event for Halloween, October 31, location to be announced.

Bike jousting isn’t new. Birmingham, Alabama’s Tall Bike Joust held its 14th annual competition on September 26, 2026, with sixteen jousters on tall bikes.

It began in the early 2010s to raise awareness for Redemptive Cycles, the city’s non-profit community bike co-op.
