A weekend group ride in South Florida turned into something no cyclist ever wants to experience: a road rage confrontation that ended with a gunshot.

What Happened
Just after 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, a group of cyclists was riding along Southwest 87th Avenue near Southwest 184th Street in Cutler Bay, in southwest Miami-Dade County, when a black SUV came up behind them, horn blaring.
Video of the incident, first posted on the Only in Dade social media account, shows the SUV appearing to swerve into the group as it tried to pass, then coming to an abrupt stop and cutting off one of the riders. That cyclist is then seen banging on the passenger door of the vehicle.
Moments later, a gunshot rings out. According to Local 10 News, the video appears to show someone firing from inside the vehicle before the driver took off.
The Details
Deputies responded to reports of shots fired and found a bullet hole in the ground. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The two accounts of the incident differ on one key point. Local 10 reports that deputies are searching for the person who opened fire from the SUV. NBC 6, citing the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, says deputies confirmed a shot was fired into the ground but did not say whether it came from the driver or one of the cyclists. What both agree on: as of Monday, the driver had not been arrested.

Why It Matters
Every cyclist who rides on open roads knows the sinking feeling of an aggressive driver behind you. Most encounters end with a honk and some choice words. This one escalated to a firearm — and it’s pure luck nobody was hit.
