Sometimes creativity pushes the boundaries of whatโ€™s possible, and occasionally, whatโ€™s sensible.

Saw Wheels

But instead of relying on studded tires or traditional ice bike designs, he went with something far more dramatic – replacing the wheels with massive circular saw blades.

The project begins with a complete teardown of a standard road bike. The wheels are stripped of their tires, spokes, and cassettes, leaving only the hubs to serve as anchors for the new invention.

Into place go two giant, 26-inch saw blades, bolted and reinforced with custom-made supports. The result is a bike that looks equal parts futuristic and terrifying.

On the first test ride, however, things donโ€™t go as smoothly as expected. The razor-sharp teeth of the saw blades dig too deeply into the ice, stopping the bike rather than propelling it forward.

Itโ€™s a classic case of trial and error that makes DIY projects both frustrating and fascinating to watch.

To solve the issue, he welds small metal plates to the tips of the saw teeth. This clever adjustment prevents the blades from biting too hard into the ice while still providing the grip needed for movement.

The final ride across the frozen lake is surprisingly smooth. The modified bike glides over the icy surface with an eerie mix of elegance and menace, proving that sometimes the wildest ideas can actually work – if youโ€™re persistent enough to refine them.

Of course, this isnโ€™t a design youโ€™d want to try at home without serious precautions. But as a spectacle of engineering creativity and sheer audacity, itโ€™s hard to beat.
