A shocking helmet camera video captured the moment a black Volvo SUV struck a cyclist during a training ride on Natchez Trace Parkway, Nashville.
The footage, by cyclist Greg Goodman, shows his riding partner (Tyler Noe) being hit by the vehicle.
“I only knew that I hit him when I got home and I answered the phone and got a death threat,”
Driver Responds After Arrest
The driver, identified as Marshall Grant Neely III, left the scene without stopping. Neely, who works at the University School of Nashville, was later arrested and has since spoken out about the incident.
“I’m not a bad man,” Neely told NewsChannel 5. He claims he was unaware of the collision until returning home.
Death Threats Follow Video Release
After the video went viral, Neely says he received numerous threats against his life. “I only knew that I hit him when I got home and I answered the phone and got a death threat,” he stated.
According to Neely, he’s received “at least 40 death threats” following the incident. He maintained he was simply driving “to relax” and didn’t see the cyclists at all.
Conflicting Accounts Emerged After Incident
When asked directly if he saw the riders, Neely responded, “No there are bikes all over the place, I didn’t see him.” However, arrest affidavits revealed a different story initially told to law enforcement.
According to official documents, Neely claimed “a man and a woman were standing on the road and threw the bicycle at his vehicle.” This account contradicts both the video evidence and his later statements to media.
Victim’s Condition
Tyler Noe sustained significant bruising from the impact. His riding partner’s quick thinking to capture the incident on camera has provided crucial evidence for the case.
“I feel very badly for the gentleman who collided with me and I assume we’ll see each other in court,” Neely added, after the incident.
